Eggs, Anyone?

Mommy Moment…

“That light isn’t working right. It’s casting an odd shadow. Suppose one bulb is out?” Curt puzzled over the odd lighting from the floor lamp near his recliner one October evening. It was just after the time change, so we hadn’t used that light for 6 months or so. I couldn’t remember it having a bulb burnt out, but 6 months is a long time. I probably just forgot.

I meandered over to the light to see if it was just loose or something. It was an antique floor lamp. I think it had been his grandmothers. We didn’t use it often, but on long winter nights if Curt was home reading, he liked to use that lamp.

You will never guess what was wrong with his light.

There was a colored Easter egg still in it!! – YUCK!! – 6 months old. That dyed, boiled egg was 6 months old.,, just waiting there for someone to find it.

As soon as I saw it, I remembered what had happened. There had been a storm that Easter. We had hidden the eggs that the kids had colored in the house. They had hidden and rehidden the eggs so many times, we had apparently lost count of how many eggs they had found.

We paused is shock and then burst out laughing. Surely it had smelled bad as it rotted. How could we not have noticed it?

We joked about having eggs for breakfast the next morning, but in reality, we just disposed of the forgotten, rotten egg.

No egg salad sandwiches for us.

There is no perfection in our home. But there is a lot of laughter and grace.

Mommy, you got this!!
