Mommy Moment…
Mom was a character. I so wish she had been with us longer. She never got to meet Caleb. Kali was just tiny when she died. She wasn’t here for graduations, weddings, or the birth of my grandchildren. But I am ever so grateful for the years I had with her. She was a beautiful soul.
The one thing that stands out is her love of life. She had hard years. years when she was unhappy or hurting. But she was quick to laugh and loved her family with all she had.
One of the first Christmases that Curt and I were married, Mom decided to give slippers to all of her sons and sons-in-law. Sweet thought, right? Well, it may have been a sweet gift from someone other than my mother. From her… it was… well… not so sweet.
She was like a kid in a candy store when Christmas morning came around that year. She could hardly wait for the guys to open their gifts! She was so tickled with herself.
Why, you may ask. The slippers were not ordinary slippers. They were farting slippers! They had miniature whoopie cushions in the heals. With every step the guys took… Pffffft… Pffffft…
The other guys didn’t seem to enjoy them, but Curt kept his for YEARS!!!
I loved my mom!!! She was quick to find the humor in a situation and bring joy to those around her. If people tell me I am like my mom, I take it as a huge compliment.
