Mommy Moment…
As strange as it might be, we sold or gave away all of our living room furniture when we knew Danielle, Jeff and their family would be living with us for a few months. Joining two complete households into one home was a trick. Thirteen is a large number of people for any home, and the amount of stuff that comes with that many people is phenomenal!
Her living room furniture was new. I hated to see it put in storage somewhere. Ours was an eclectic bunch of items, most of which had been given to us over the years. In my mind, it just made sense to keep hers and pitch mine…other than the dinner table set God found for us.
It turned out great! Everything fit in the house, even their enormous TV. (Well, nearly everything. We had an old shuttle bus, and we did used it to store a few things.) Eighteen months later when they moved to Wyoming, I had to rethink my choice the morning after they moved. We had absolutely NO furniture in our front room. None. Nada. No comfy couch. No rocking chair. No TV. Curt was none too excited about sitting on the floor and staring at the walls. LOL
Craigslist to the rescue! I had looked for a bit that Saturday night. I even messaged one family about a couch. They responded quickly Sunday morning. If we could come right after church, we could get a couch right away. Awesome! No more sitting on the floor.
Turned out a Dad was storing his daughter’s stuff and had been super happy to sell it. He threw in a large, overstuffed chair and its ottoman… for free… if we’d take it all... right then.
So, we did.
The couch is orange, and the chair is purple. It might not be quite my style, but it has been the perfect furniture. It has served us well for the last ten years. It’s super comfy. Kids use the couch as a bed because it’s the size of one. And now, we are passing it on to one of our children.
God is amazing. He worked everything out just right. I just love that!
