Making School Fun!

Mommy Moment…

Teaching Grammar to our younger three was quite fun. ---Really.

We made it a game… a silly game at that.

When we were in the car together, whether we were driving just an hour or we were on a road trip to Danielle’s for 20 hours, we played a grammar game for at least part of the trip. I would assign a part of speech to each kids, and they used their imagination to come up with the most random one they could. We would trade assigned parts often so that everyone had a chance to come up with every part of speech. For example…

Jenna might be given the subject. Kali might have the verb. That would leave Caleb with a prepositional phrase. I’d give them a moment to think of one, then they shared their word or words with the rest of us and we made a sentence using their words. So… we might end up with something like…

Jenna: The fence post

Kali: quickly jumped

Caleb: around the lake.

Our finished sentence…The fence post quickly jumped around the lake.

It was a great game! They learned the parts of speech. Their school lessons were fun. And… We laughed and laughed at the silly sentences that were created. As a bonus our car rides were filled with joy.

Finding creative ways to homeschool was something I quite enjoyed. It made lesson planning fun for me and it made the kids excited to see what crazy idea Mom might come up with.

Mommy, you got this!!
