When God Closes a Door

Mommy Moment…

We were headed to the State Fair for the kids to compete in the talent show and the shooting sports events. Money was tight, so we made plans to stay with my niece who lived near there. We had done that several times over the years. It was always fun to spend time with her and her family.

She called to let me know that their plans had changed. They were going to go camping that weekend and wouldn’t be home. She would leave the door unlocked for us and the key was just inside the door. We were to keep the key with us and just come and go as we pleased.

Yeah. About that…

She and her family headed out that morning. They left the door unlocked for us. But…

A friend stopped by. Noticing that the door was unlocked, they did the sensible thing and locked it!!

We showed up later that afternoon, and couldn’t get in. We wandered around her house several times. Checked every window and every door. Nothing was open. We were gathered near her front door, rattling a basement window when a neighbor walked up and quizzed us thoroughly. I was half afraid they were going to call the cops on us.

Instead, they helped us break in through a basement bathroom window!! Once we had the little window open, we dropped one of the kids through it. They ran through the house and opened the front door.

It was a scene straight out of a TV sitcom!

We had a great weekend. The competitions went well. All was well. It was only later when I had a chance to talk to my niece that we figured out what had happened. Their friend felt so bad. They had meant to do a favor, and instead caused a bit of a fuss.

I am that way quite often. My intentions are good, but the end result is a mess. I guess that just proves, once again...When God closes one door, He opens a window.

Mommy, you got this!!
